Differences Between historical facts and the crucible
- John Proctor and Abigail Williams did not have a proven affair. Th affair seems highly unlikely because John was sixty years old and Abigail was only eleven years old at the time.
- John Proctor, Martha Corey, and Rebecca Nurse weren't all hung on the same day as described in the play. It is also not proven that any of them recited The Lord's Prayer on the day that they were hung. It is said to be unlikely because if they did then that would have been enough to prove their innocence.
- Giles Corey was arrested for wizardry but in the play he was arrested for being in contempt of the court. The reason and style of which he was executed is proven to be the same in the story and in real life. The only difference being that historically, Giles was stripped naked and pressed to death.
