Real Life VS The Crucible
In The Crucible Betty Parris was a ten year old girl that was Reverend Parris' daughter. At the beginning of the play she gets sick and the doctor doesn't know what's wrong with her. The doctor examines her thoroughly and after he can not find anything, he tells the Reverend that he should begin looking at unnatural causes.. She reveals that Abigail drank blood and created a charm. Betty and all of the other girls, especially Abigail Williams, began accusing innocent people of being involved with the devil. Throughout the play all the girls follow Abigail's lead in the court because they were all threatened by her.
In real life, Betty was only nine years old. Her real name was Elizabeth Parris, this was the same name that her mother had. Betty was just a nickname.Betty played just as large of a role as Abigail Williams did in the trials. The accusations that were made by her and Abigail caused the direct death of twenty Salem residents. |
