What is mcCarthyism?
- McCarthyism is the practice of making accusations of disloyalty, subversion, or treason without proper regard for evidence.

- Joseph McCarthy was a senator that claimed to have a list of Communist working for the State Department.
- A total number of 109 investigations were performed between 1949 and 1954 by the House Committee on Un-American Activities, the Senate Internal Security Subcommittee, and the Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations.
- Joseph McCarthy was condemned December 2nd, 1954 when the U.S Senate voted 65 to 22 for the "conduct that tends to bring the Senate dishonor and disrepute".
- The Communist Control Act of 1954 made the member to a Communist Party a criminal act and that all party members would be fined up to $10,000 or imprisonment for five years or both.
- Many people lost their jobs and were denied jobs during this time period.
