Francis Nurse in The Crucible was a man that was well-respected in the town of Salem along with his wife. He had the courage to stand up in front of the court and tell the judge as well as the governor that they have been deceived by these girls who are stating these wild accusations about the people in Salem. It was said that the Putnam family did not like the Nurse family because they had an abundance of children.
In reality, the Putnam family actually lost less children than the Nurse family. This was mostly because Rebecca Nurse got pregnant more times than Ann Putnam Sr did. It is not documented if Francis Nurse ever got re-married after the trials. All that is known is that he died three years after his wife was hung. |
